How to Adapt Your Skincare Routine for Spring
Spring is here. And while that’s great news, it also means you’ll be worrying about what this means for your skin and skincare routine. The art of transitioning from a winter to a spring care routine is one that not many have completely mastered.
Here are some of the simple steps you can take to take care of your skin in spring:
Switch your moisturizer
Once spring hits, your skin care routine changes mainly because of the use of regular water instead of warm water for bathing. Warm water erodes the skin, strips it of body oils and leaves it dry and distressed. This is why a heavy hydrating moisturizer is needed to layer the skin to keep it happy.
In stark contrast, your spring moisturizer needs to be a lighter option that lets the skin breathe through, keeping acne at bay. Find an oil free or combination skin moisturizer , because they are comparatively less heavy on the skin.
Exfoliate instead of cleansing
Along with changes in the weather, the skin also transforms into its oily best in the spring. A simple cleansing routine is not enough to get rid of all the sun exposure and the oiliness of the skin. This is where exfoliators come to the rescue. They have small particles that rub off on the skin and get rid of the winter dead skin as well as spring dirt and oils.
The scrubs should always be chosen with care as they should not be too harsh and have the tiniest particles to act as exfoliators. Not only for the face, a good body scrub is also important when it comes to getting rid of all spring perspiration.

Slather on the sunscreen
Sunscreen is a skin care product that is required throughout the year and we cannot have enough of it. The change that comes with the seasonal shift is generally the level of SPF in the sunscreen. It is common knowledge that once summer is gone the northern hemisphere is closer to the sun and that is why the sun-rays are at their harshest in spring and summer. So spike up the SPF while keeping the texture of the sunscreen light so that the skin is protected while it can still breathe through.
Gel based sunscreens are the best for spring since they are light on the skin and do not need much slathering on.
Lighten up on the makeup products
Spring is the time when you can finally get rid of the heavy layering of clothes and free your body and skin from the slumber of winters. This should be a cue to lower the heavy layering of makeup on the face as well. It’s time to finally free your skin of heavy foundations and thick bases on the face. The best options to create a flawless look in spring are BB, CC creams or tinted creams which are basically moisturizers but have a little coverage to hide your flaws.

Use a gentler soap
Shifting to a milder soap is a must as soon as you ditch the cold. Look for cool cucumber or aloe vera soaps which are cooling in nature and take good care of the skin as well. Menthol and peppermint are also good ingredients to have in your soaps as they have natural cooling qualities.
So follow the aforementioned suggestions and make your skincare routine spring-ready!
